Elementals don’t mix. They fight over territories constantly and news of their battles is everywhere.

Vela, an Earth Elemental, wants two things: to make it through high school and one day run her very own flower shop. When Linc, a Fire Elemental, strolls into her life, she is immediately thrown into chaos when a bond flares up, connecting them forever. Linc pursues her relentlessly, for connections like this are rare, but Vela wants nothing to do with it or him.

With this news, Vela discovers she and Linc may be a part of an age-old prophecy that could change their world forever by uniting the warring clans. However, a powerful group does not want their pairing to exist, for if it does, the prophecy may come true.

Vela and Linc must keep their bond a secret, for their lives are at risk if it is made public.

Can Vela deny a bond that could unite the battling clans, finally providing peace after centuries of conflict? Will she allow herself to love an enemy?

Book Review

After finishing this book, I honestly have to say I am left with mixed feelings. There is much about the story that I enjoyed. I love that the premise of the novel centers around Elementals. I really enjoyed Simpson’s take on them, and how she weaved faith into it, as well. The idea of Vela and Linc also being part of a prophecy was incredibly intriguing, and I felt myself needing to know more about that. The ending itself was exciting but also left readers wanting to know more about what will happen to Vela and Linc.

However, it took me more than halfway into the book to really get into the story. I felt that there was not much depth to Vela’s character until way later in the novel. For the majority of it, her entire character centered around Linc, her bond with him, and her not wanting to be bonded with him. Anytime she got close or felt comfortable around him, he would do or say something that would upset her and she would try to run away from him again. I kept wanting more from her, from Linc, from their relationship. It took way too long to get to the prophecy because of that, and I would have enjoyed the story more if that hadn’t been the case.

Putting that aside, however, I would still recommend this book for any Christian teenage girls who love fantasy. Simpson is a talented author, and she creates a wonderful world with the Elementals. There’s also a strong thread of faith and a good message in the story.
